Dowel bars are a more traditional approach to load transfer – however, our “Permasleeve” square dowel bars offer significant benefits over round dowels, with better resistance to bending and shear.
Dowel systems
Dowels perform the important job of load transfer between adjacent concrete slabs. Because a concrete slab only has around 50% of its load-bearing capacity at the edges, dowels are needed to support the slab, help bear and transfer weight, and permit controlled movement of the two adjacent slabs (technically called the “approach and leave slabs”.)
All Permaban products allow design and construction of floor slabs in conformance with BS EN 1991-1-1:2002 & BS EN 1992-1-1:2004 and to best practice as set out on TR34 4th edition.
